Selena
She was a singer, performer and designer who broke through the barriers of the world of music. She was Mexican-American, but also traditional. She brought Tejano into the mainstream of music. Her name was rising but her sudden death broke it. It is also the case with a talented, charismatic and young artist dies too soon, many mourned the potential that she could not yet achieve. To stop her accomplishments from being forgotten her many admirers over the past years have been motivated to do even more. Selena's tragic death by shooting triggered a response in the Latino community that was similar to reactions following the deaths of Elvis Presley or John Lennon. The singer was extremely popular throughout Latino communities across North America her music crossed lines of cultural difference to affect people young and old alike. Selena might have been described by certain people as an Latina Madonna, however she's still an excellent example to follow. Selena's values of family life offstage and her participation with AIDS awareness campaigns make her a good example.
